Underpants for your hands

Are you really naked under those gloves? For Pete’s sake, put on some Handerpants! These 95% cotton, 5% spandex, fingerless gloves have the look and feel of men’s briefs. Slip them on underneath your gloves for extra warmth and protection from chafing! Weather them on their own as a vaguely inappropriate fashion statement. Hundreds of uses! Fit most adult hands. The perfect gift for that person whose hands are always cold.

Facebook Like and Dislike Stamps

Facebook has changed the way we look at things and now you can give your stamp of approval or disapproval with the Like and Dislike Stamps. Facebook may not have gotten around to creating the dislike button yet, but that doesn't mean you can't avail it for those error-filled reports or a note from your hubby saying he's out with the boys...again.

Big Mouth Toys Toilet Mug

Why should dogs be the only ones allowed to drink out of the toilet? This silly toilet-shaped mug holds up to 12 -ounces of your favorite hot beverage and will make your co-workers do a double take. The hand-painted Toilet Mug makes a great gag gift for any coffee or tea lover and will gross out anyone who has a weak stomach.

LED Cloud Lanterns

http://www.elementalled.com/academy/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/clouds.jpg

Gather the following items:
  • Cotton Batting
  • Paper Lanterns
  • Battery Powered LED lights
  • Hot Glue Gun
Instructions
1. Pull at the cotton batting until it looks fluffy, light, and cloud-like.

2. Hot glue the batting to the outside of the paper lantern in various places, making sure it’s fluffed to your liking.

3. Place your LED lights inside each lantern.

4. If you’re using small, battery powered LED lights, you can affix them to the internal structure of the lantern and hang it wherever you like.

5. As another option, you could make a chain of several clouds, connecting them with Elemental LED’s RGB 4-In-One LED Puck Light Kit, which would enable you to create color-changing-LED lit clouds remotely controlled with an RGB controller! (This option requires a nearby electrical outlet, however.)

DIY Bottle Cap Frame

Supplies:
-Mod Podge.
-Bottle Cap (Do Not Shake).
-Tape.
-Pencil.
-Ruler.
-Exacto Knife or scissors.
-Photo.

1. Measure the photo to a 1 inch diameter using a pencil to trace, so that bleeds do not appear on the edges of the photo.

2. Place it in the bottle cap, then trim as needed.

3. Use a little piece of tape to attach it to the cap (so that the Mod Podge doesn't rise it up while it dries).

4. Apply Mod Podge in to cap at an angle so that bubbles do not accure. (If so, use applicator to nudge bubbles out of cap).

5. Dry for 3 hours.

Finding The Right Education | University vs. University

I'm doing a project that takes the best colleges to compare them, but what really makes a great college the best?

The sports team?
The Greek councils?
How about the faculty?
Better yet, what about the weather?

For the next several weeks I'll be posting my research on my blog hoping to get more insight on some popular acclaimed universities...

Week 1:

  • University of Nevada - Las Vegas

Week 2:

DIY Scratch-Off Cards

Great technique to create save-the-date wedding invites, coupon scratch-offs for businesses or holidays, or hide a secret message!

To make your own scratch-offs, you will need:
Something you want to turn into a scratch-off
Clear packing tape or contact paper
Acrylic craft paint in any color (metallic makes it more realistic)
Scissors
Paint brush
Dish soap
Hairdryer (optional)

1. Create your card, or get your card ready if it’s already made. For this project, I am creating my own Florida Trivia scratch-offs, which I made using the GIMP photo editor. To reveal the answer of the Florida Trivia questions, someone will have to scratch it off. ;)  I created 4 different question cards and then printed them out on colored paper. Since you need the paper to be somewhat sturdy, I cut around my printed cards and pasted them onto a stiffer paper for support. To make them a bit fancy, I cut the edges with decorative scissors.

2. Use your regular scissors and cut a peice of clear packing tape or contact paper, the size you need to cover up the words you want to scratch off, and then place it on the card, sticky side down.
*Tip: If you use contact paper instead, you can paint the contact paper first, then cut out shapes and stick them over your text.

3. Then, mix 2 parts paint with one part dish soap. Using your paintbrush, paint a thin layer of this mixture over the packing tape. I used a hairdryer on a high heat setting to help dry the paint. You need to make sure the layer is completely dry before painting the next layer. It will take about 4-5 layers to hide your text, unless your text is fairly small. So you will follow this order: paint, dry, paint, dry, paint, dry, etc. until your text is covered. (I know mine looks a little messy, but it is just a demonstration for this DIY!)
*Tip: To know if it is completely dry, it should feel just like dry paint. If it has a soapy feeling, or if you can leave a fingerprint on the paint when you touch it, it is not dry enough.

4. After it’s dry, you are done! How easy was that? Now, just grab a coin and scratch away!

Attach a 50mm Lens to your iPhone?!

A CONCEPT Not to be confused with the already developed skjm.com/icam/ !

My iPhone is so handy and so much better at getting good pictures than it used to be that I find myself taking out the DSLR kit less and less these days, and just doing a little more work on the editing side, something Annie Leibovitz says is the key to great shots anyway. But a new iPhone accessory concept brings the best of both worlds via a single device — albeit one that doesn’t exist, yet.

The iCam is a simple case for the iPhone 5 (yes, iPhone 5), as conceptualized by Italy’s ADR Studio. The studio used a mock-up it had created for the iPhone 5, featuring a larger edge-to-edge screen and oval home button, as the base device for the iCam add-on, but it’s not hard to imagine it working with the iPhone 4 either.
The quality of the design is indefinitely not apple. Grabbing a button layout from canon? Putting the too small virtual buttons in the middle of the layout – the furthest away location possible? The sharp edge top right to scratch the phone? The tacky and pointless front facing screen? The overall ‘no way to hold it without touching a button’ layout?

Someone should seriously introduce a camera accessory like this. If someone like Panasonic introduced a Lumix camera case for the iPhone that supported micro 4/3 lenses i’d purchase it in a heartbeat.

How Art Streiber Shot 100 Hollywood Stars in Less Than Six Minutes

I saw a story about this photo on the TV last week. Paramount wanted to assemble 100 celeberites in one room for a massive group shot in celebration of their 100th anniversary. I thought it was impossible, and then i found this YouTube video about the behind the scenes of the making of this great portrait. =)
Art Streiber works with the motto, “The answer is yes, now what’s the question?" What a great inspiring photographer.

According to the story on FStoppers, Art fired 63 frames on a Hasselblad H2 camera with a Phase One IQ-160 back and a 150mm lens, in just five minutes and forty-two seconds . He shot the photo in three sections, and in post production, the left, middle, and right sections were merged into the final triple page spread that appeared in Vanity Fair. All 116 people were on stage at one time. Nobody was stitched into the photo.

Trends to Mainstream!

There is a distinct difference between a “trend” and something that has passed on into “mainstream”. But what is that difference? To answer this question, one has to look at the definitions of the terms first and then look behind the mere words to gain a valid interpretation.

Here’s what the Oxford Dictionaries say about the word trend: “a general direction in which something is developing or changing”.

And here’s what it says about mainstream: “the ideas, attitudes, or activities that are shared by most people and regarded as normal or conventional”.

This seems simple enough and only little further elaboration shall be made on the mere words. Next to the literal meaning, these definitions put the two terms into direct correlation to each other: while mainstream is that which is “shared by most people”, a trend is “developing” – it can be inferred that a trend always precedes mainstream.

And in fact, the author could not recall a single case where something or someone skipped the trend stage and went right from nothing to everything. It’s simply unheard of.
